Heading up to Manitoulin for some bass fishing this weekend. Will also be doing some shore fishing for salmon in Providence Bay. Do you have any experience there? Any hints on lures, techniques, flies?
May be too early to say, but would it be worth stopping into Owen Sound and fishing off the pier for salmon Friday night?

Hi Peter:

I haven't been to Manitoulin Island to fish for awhile but the same rigging gear should work there as here, it always did in the past. Perhaps the salmon might be staging a little more than in Owen Sound where it is delayed this year.

It's hard to predict what will be happening five days ahead in the fishing scene but we have had considerable rain over this past weekend so salmon and some trout should be coming in at night. You might wish to check out Meaford Harbout as well if you are coming past that way. Last weekend Meaford was pretty quiet but I figure the first major run for all the Georgian Bay and Huron rivers should begin this week.
