As for missing out on prime flat-lining, that's not necessarily so. Georgian Bay surface temperatures dictate the depth of bait and fish and both can change quickly with wind and currents. Best bet is to watch the gulls, if they are going nuts along the shoreline, get a body bait out... fast! You might have to settle for big rainbows and browns but fishing is tough sometimes.

Once in August off Lion's Head my fishing partner Dave Mennie had trouble getting his line hooked in his downrigger release because salmon kept pulling the line out of his hand! It turned out that a strong current had brought 52F water and bait right to the surface.
