Memorial Plaque for Grant Ferris

On December 23, 2007 we lost a great friend when Grant Ferris passed away. Many members of this site suggested that we should put together a tribute for Grant. Within a few weeks the plaque you see below was designed and built. Thanks to the local MNR office the plaque is now placed on their building at Denny's Dam.

On April 16th 2008 a memorial service was held at Denny's Dam. A large group of GBO members along with members of Gran'ts motorcycle club, representatives from the MNR and many of Grant's family members and friends gathered. It was a perfect day, sunny and warm with the fish run well underway we all took time from our day to remember Grant,

Grant's sister Dianne wrote this poem about the day.

Memories of Grant

The day was bright, the sun so warm
The river ran with life
‘Neath the whitish foam
The family gathered
…Far from home

While fishermen stood
With memories alone.
The plaque uncovered
Burnished bright in the sun
While my tearful gaze
…Fell upon

A pair of empty waders
Lying there
Beneath the tree…
And I thought of him
A memory
…Strong.

With waders left there
I know he’s gone
But I know the truth
I believe the promise
A rest well needed
…For a little while

I know he’ll return
What year I don’t know
But we’ll see him someday
A lonely form
Fishing again…
On the Saugeen alone.
